Music in May – Sonya Veronica Quintet

Sonya’s first form of expression since she was a child is singing. She finds jazz, bossa and chanson française repertoires resonate with her artistic and creative senses and narrates them through her performances in Melbourne (with a few stints in Paris and Montreal) since 2009.

For her Recast 2021 program at the Clocktower Centre Theatre on Saturday, 8th May, she is joined by some of Melbourne’s seasoned and highly regarded jazz musicians: Mark Fitzgibbon on piano, Howard Cairns on double bass, Alistair Mclean on guitar, and Alex Spicer on drums.

The quintet will explore and interpret a beloved selection of chansons françaises and jazz standards on this Autumn moody-after dark music session from Serge Gainsbourg’s La Javanaise to Paul Misraki’s L’étang to You Go to My Head by J. Fred Coots.
